Voice typing for Android

Whimbrel

Offline voice typing for Android: accurate on-device speech recognition that works in airplane mode. Your audio never leaves the phone.

In development

What it's for

Whimbrel turns your speech into text on your phone. It is being built for three things.

Dictate wherever you type

Whimbrel works as a voice keyboard, so a message, an email or a search can be spoken instead of typed, in whatever app you are using.

Keep notes

Dictate notes in Whimbrel itself, or turn a recording into text, and export them as plain text whenever you want them somewhere else.

Work without a signal

The speech recognition runs on the phone, so Whimbrel works in airplane mode, on a train, or anywhere the connection drops.

Your voice stays on your phone

Your voice is never sent anywhere, and neither are the words it becomes. There are no accounts, and no advertising, analytics or tracking. Whimbrel uses the internet for one thing, downloading its speech models, and that download carries no audio and no text.

Whimbrel's privacy policy says exactly what it does and does not do.

Getting Whimbrel
